After several years of living under the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), providers now know that the enrollment period (November 1, 2017 through December 15, 2017) will have an untold impact on their practice for 2018. Last year, in Florida, Molina became a juggernaut through the healthcare exchange by maximizing the number of new patients they brought into their plan during the enrollment period. This is changing this coming year, as Molina has raised their prices by an average of 71.2%. Ambetter (by Sunshine Heath), another large insurer on Florida’s healthcare exchange, raised their prices by 46.1%.

As Molina’s presence in Florida will ostensibly be scaled back next year, be aware that any outstanding or unpaid claims that your practice has on its AR may quickly become uncollectable. The largest, and most affordable, insurer on the exchange this year for Floridians is Florida Blue’s bronze My Blue plan. A provider’s status as in-network with Florida Blue may not include this specific plan. Providers who want to retain exchange members by servicing this plan should follow up with Florida Blue network managers about joining the My Blue network.
